On 27 and 28 June 2017, a first European workshop was held at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London. More than 40 participants from across Europe representing national skills bodies, education and training providers, unions and employers’ organisations, and professional associations, etc. took part in the discussions.
Professionals from theatre, broadcasting and film provided concrete examples of how the sector experiments with new business models, adopts new organisational structures and adjusts to the evolution of working patterns and statutes. An emphasis was given to the skills needed to accompany these transformations, both at the level of organisations and to support individual careers.
The discussions focused on the following main questions: How to keep up with technical developments, make sure the sector plays its role in digital content creation, and acquires the right entrepreneurship skills to give birth to the next generation of business models? How to support the increasing number of freelancers and other independent workers to acquire the relevant skills at different stages of their careers?
Challenges but also potential solutions were discussed at lengths during the two days. The testimonies and practices collected will be channeled into a publication.
