Challenge/problem to be solved

As there is an increasing demand for individuals to auto-produce creative content at home, is it possible to record professional sound with a low budget and basic skills?

Skill Set

With the right equipment and the right software, the skills needed to set up a home studio are nowadays very basic.

Digital Tools

To produce music on your Ipad you need basic material (a MIDI Controller, an Audio Interface, an USB-C Hub, a Monitor/headphone, etc.) and the right App (Garage Band or others). If you are working on a PC several Soft Synths Apps exist, you’ll find a couple of free options in the resources below.

Tips on how to use the tool in the most efficient way

There are many videos on Youtube on how to set up a home studio and how to start your own recordings. It is easy to set up and can be carried anywhere. When you are good to go and start producing sounds, think about storage and how to structure your recordings/tracks as you might easily get lost. If you wonder which tablet to buy/use to produce music, watch the youtube video in the resources below. For a deeper dive on the digital skills of musicians and composers, watch the interview with Andrea Perjolo, Chair of the Contemporary Writing and Production Department at Berklee College of Music in Boston, on the Creative Skills Europe website (link below).
